At the beginning of 2011, one of the Timpir board members, Getano Gai, travelled to his home region of Mabok in South Sudan (in Aweil south county of Northern Bahr el Ghazal). He was approached by volunteer teachers at the very basic local school there who asked if there was any way he could help the school. When Getano returned to Australia, he broached it with the Timpir board who agreed to begin supporting the school. Since May 2011 Timpir has been paying the salaries of 2 teachers at Mabok Primary School.

Mabok Schoolrooms Timpir began our support of Mabok on a small scale, and over the 2011 academic year we have received reports (both verbal and photographic) from the school. Since May the school has been asking for support to build better school infrastructure, however the board decided not to send over money until we had developed more of a relationship with the school community and staff. In November, the teachers once again raised the issue of needing more school classrooms and requested that if possible it would be great if they could undertake the building of an additional two classrooms during their long summer break (Dec-March). The board agreed that this was a good idea especially as several board members will be travelling there in February and will be able to assess the project. The community has utilised the money sent thus far to purchase materials to build three classrooms and two latrines.

In addition, Getano was approached by ten community members in Mabok who have mobility disorders which mean that they are unable to walk and are limited to crawling on their hands, knees or bottoms. Timpir has run a targeted fundraising campaign through which we have raised $3500 to purchase hand pedalled tricycles for these 10 people. A local tricycle maker in Aweil town (who uses one of the chairs himself) has begun construction of the ten chairs and these will be delivered to the recipients when the Timpir board members travel to South Sudan in February 2012.
